Interns with Arts For Life Charlotte

Why do you think art is important?

Amy: It can help you express something that you might not be able to express with words or in any other way, and it helps to relieve stress…AND it’s fun!

What is your favorite art material to use?

Leanna: My favorite material is the one that’s closest to me. I grew up in underfunded schools, so we adapted to using any materials that were available. I’ve always liked mixed media anyway because I feel like it connects with the mixed nature of my background and heritage.

What Arts For Life project has been your favorite to create?

All: We like the AFL projects that are more open-ended and allow kids to make it their own using their own creativity and ideas.

December’s theme is GIVE. What is the best gift you’ve ever given someone? Who did you give it to?

Leanna: Every day for 6 months I wrote down on little pieces of paper happy memories about me and my fiance, and things about him that made me happy… and then I put them all in a jar and gave it to him as a gift.

What is the best gift you’ve ever received? What did it feel like to get it?

Maggie: The best gift I received was from my husband when we were just dating… he gave me a plane ticket to go visit my brother when he came home from the Gulf War.
