Bands4Good Challenge: The Votes Are IN!

You’ve seen photos of the amazing paintings and collages our students create. But did you know we also provide music education in area hospitals and clinics? Our music fellows teach pediatric patients guitar, accordion, you name it, which is why we were chosen as a nonprofit partner in NC-based Doing Good Network™’s 2014 Bands4Good Challenge! The competition provides a stage for aspiring and cause-driven musicians to spread the word about their music while raising awareness and important funds for music education.

The votes have been tallied: Kamaira Hartley Philips is the Bands4Good Champion! Kamaira raised over $6,000 to support Arts For Life , and we’re so grateful to Kamaira for being a champion of our young artists and musicians.

The Daily Tarheel recently profiled Kamaira, a senior at UNC Chapel Hill. Our mission resonated with her, as she’s a pre-med student who has volunteered at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center for about two years. She’s also the founder of Mind, Body, Spirit Connection, a social and wellness group with a mission to help people “cope with stress and maintain life balance.” The Tarheel reporter even caught up with our own executive director, Rachel Zink, for the piece.
