Kaleidoscope: Art of the Triangle

Friday, July 12 6:00-8:00 PM

This year’s community art exhibit, Kaleidoscope: Art of the Triangle, will be held at FRANK Community Gallery and features artwork created by pediatric patients and their family members in the Arts For Life program at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center. Each of the artworks features the Triangle, a nod to our home where we get the opportunity to get creative with patients and families every day. Like Arts For Life, the simple lines of the triangle create a strong foundation for so much more – we believe the simple acts of drawing and painting create a foundation to inspire courage through creativity, even in the midst of medical treatment. With the support and encouragement of an Arts For Life teacher, a single piece of paper transforms into a masterpiece.

The triangle – a simple shape – is a great symbol for the magic that happens through creativity and Arts For Life at Duke Children’s Hospital.

Opening Reception is Friday, July 12 from 6 – 8pm. This event is FREE to attend and all are welcome. Light bites will be provided. Donations are accepted. Prints will be available for purchase. Share with friends and family on Facebook!

This art exhibit will remain on display July 3 – 27, 2019. The FRANK Community Gallery is located at 201 S. Estes Drive, B6, across from the Verizon store near the Southern Season’s end of University Place in Chapel Hill.

The FRANK Community Gallery will be open weekly Wed – Sat from 1-5pm, from July 3 – 27, and closed on July 4th.

From Arts For Life Program Director Alison Griffin:

Arts For Life is thrilled to partner with FRANK Gallery for this year’s art show. Their support is helping us spread the message across the Triangle that art is for everyone, while promoting both organizations’ shared goal of inclusivity by making art accessible to all. The Triangle has been my home for almost 11 years now and I absolutely love everything it has to offer: the sights, the sounds, and the people that make up such an incredible community.

Our upcoming Kaleidoscope: Art of the Triangle art show is a wonderful way for the community to learn more about their local nonprofits and to support the amazing patients and families in our programs. When I tell the patients and families at Duke Children’s Hospital that their artwork will be displayed in an art gallery, their eyes light up! Everyone we work with is an artist – and Arts For Life is honored to have this opportunity to exhibit some of their masterpieces with the Triangle.

From FRANK Gallery Outreach Coordinator Nerys Levy:

“FRANK Gallery, impressed by the Arts For Life programming at Duke Children’s Hospital, has invited the program to show in its Community Gallery in July. The program provides patients with a connection to their inner creative forces which, in turn, helps them cope with and transcend illness. FRANK hopes that the July exhibit will educate the public about the important role of art in a medical setting.”
