Art Amplified Reception and Exhibition

August 11-30; reception August 13 6-8 pm

Art Amplified Show

What:

An innovative art-music synthesis exhibition entitled Art Amplified: A Fusion of Music & Visual Art; the show features framed prints of musical score paintings and collages created by our young patients and their family members at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem. What’s more, some of these scores have been put to music! At the opening reception, local musicians will perform original songs inspired by the student artwork, many of which are new compositions created specially for the event. Recordings created by musicians not performing will also be played at the opening.

When:

The scores will be on display August 11-30; the opening reception will be held Thursday, August 13, from 6 until 8 pm.

Where:

Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA), 750 Marguerite Drive in Winston-Salem.

From Program Director Betsey McLawhorn:

“We are delighted to have been invited back to SECCA to display our students’ artwork for a second year. It was fun to think BIG for our 2014 recycled cardboard exhibit Outside the Box, so when our academic year intern, Katharyn Valier, began to think even bigger for this year—proposing the idea to combine visual art and music, the two artistic focuses of our Winston-Salem chapter—we didn’t hesitate; the gears in our heads started moving and Art Amplified is the grand, harmonious result! Our students will have the meaningful experience of seeing their work on display and of taking part in a larger, collaborative effort.”
